Let's see. I don't know. I don't know. I don't think I think we're we're just gonna get rid of this thing. I don't I'm not even sure if it still runs.
SPEAKER_08What is it? It's wet.
SPEAKER_04I don't it's it's just like uh it's a bunch of hyper specific uh semen jokes, and I think that ah ah Should we just keep them in? I think we should keep them in.
SPEAKER_08Do we have any more paper? Yeah Well, I I can't get it off my hand, so let's I mean that's your problem now. Let me get a scraper here. Now you can just use it as well. Yeah, let's keep these in. I'm not picking them up again, and I don't know how else to discard them, so I'm gonna scrape them off.
SPEAKER_04Okay, we'll just tuck it in the corner here. I think you're gonna find that if we keep it in here, it's really gonna give this thing the extra juice it needs.
SPEAKER_08Sure. Sure, sure, whatever.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Okay. Uh so I think with that, I think we can put all these Jimmy Stewart impressions right in beside there. I think we should keep those.
SPEAKER_08Keep them?
SPEAKER_04I think keep them. Do you think we should get rid of the Jimmy Stewart? I'm trying to be brutal, man. I think we should throw some stuff out. It's tough. It's tough. Okay. Okay. Jimmy Stewart. But what about the uh off-color Kevin Spacey jokes? Are those gonna stay? Those that are staying? Okay, we'll throw those in here and we'll throw those in here.
SPEAKER_08Not going anywhere. That that's evergreen. People only ever love Kevin Spacey.
SPEAKER_04Okay, we'll keep those. Um, what are we thinking about hyper-specific uh local political issues? Like we want to keep our bike lane discussions and do we want to keep that in this thing that could be a little bit more. Yeah, we want to keep that in, right? People are interested in that. If we go rolling down the street in this this I think that's what people are clamoring for. Okay, so yeah, then like there's some changes around here, there's gonna be some changes around here, but it's not gonna be too different. So we're still gonna be talking about Mike Sobel, whoever else, you know, there might be changes.
SPEAKER_08I'm uh I mean if you get a letter in the mail, just yeah, sorry about your benefits, but you know I think uh all in all these will be positive changes for the company. I mean, podcast, um this will this will work out really well for everybody. This is good best for all parties. Yeah, and if something that is dear to you or you get cut, that's actually an opportunity.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So this is like a positive thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. We're making some changes around here just so everybody we're deciding where we're keeping, what we're getting rid of. I think we're gonna shift hardcore right, right? Like that's where the money is. We want to really camber off to the right now.
SPEAKER_08Um, what do I mean?
SPEAKER_04Like like liberal? No, yeah, exact. Well, maybe even further. Maybe further than what if I told you that there was an alternative to the right?
SPEAKER_08I'm listening.
SPEAKER_04What if we went that way? I think there's some money to be made over there.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay. You're talking about selling out.
SPEAKER_04That's right. What if like we could go do we could go like do Kevin Hart's roast? We missed it, but the next time they do it, we could go there.
SPEAKER_08Next time they roast Kevin Hart.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So that's what I want to be a part of.
SPEAKER_08We can tell hilarious jokes.
SPEAKER_04So funny. So funny.
SPEAKER_08Okay, so it's the funniest thing in the world.
SPEAKER_04I want to go in that direction. What's funnier than Kevin Hart?
SPEAKER_08Roasting him.
SPEAKER_04Are we keeping the Baron Trump references or are we gonna toss him? Those gotta stay in there. Okay, we gotta stay. Okay.
SPEAKER_08I know we're taking a different turn. We're changing some things, but I'm not gonna stop.
SPEAKER_04It's just gonna be lathering him in praise now, in a joking manner.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Okay, we can keep that. Uh we'll keep that. That's that is staying in. I know it's a new edition, but are we gonna keep uh Eric Roberts? Can we keep can we keep Eric Roberts, dad? Can we keep him, please? Alright, if you're gonna clean up after him. Okay, okay, so that's staying in.
SPEAKER_08I know I don't want it to be like the last time when we got Roberts as his pets. We had Emma in here and Julia in here, and they were shitting all over the floor. I'll take I was stuck cleaning up after the fucking kid.
SPEAKER_04No, it won't happen with Eric dad. Dad, it won't happen with Eric.
SPEAKER_08I think Eric might I'll give you one last chance. If not, I'll have Eric put to sleep.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_08Don't care.
SPEAKER_04Well, okay, that's that that's fair. That's tough, but fair. Like your like your style. Eric Trump, though. I I don't care for Eric. Yeah, no. Okay, he's out.
SPEAKER_08I don't think anybody cares for Eric.
SPEAKER_02Welcome everybody to High and Low, a podcast about talking picture shows. We do films that are corny, some that are horny, some that win academy awardees. Doing all kinds of movies from all kinds of genres, serving hot cakes like plates of lasagna. Before we get going, a warning to you, you might hear some talk that's a little blue. We sometimes cuss and we sometimes curse, we like to do it off the cuff and don't rehearse. This sounds like a kind of show. Tune in, drop out, this is high and low.
SPEAKER_03Huh. Huh. Hook to a hoctua, hoctua.
SPEAKER_08That's your vocal warm-up. Hok to her. Coming at you live from Little St. James Island, the High and Low podcast.
SPEAKER_03Welcome back to the High and Low movie show. Listeners, you've heard we're here on a special island retreat episode where we're talking trains.
SPEAKER_04This is the podcast where we compare not one but two thematically connected movies. We see which one wore it better, which one did it best. Choo choo. What's that in the distance? I think I hear a tra my god, that train doesn't look like it's stopping. It looks like that train is unstoppable. It's a runaway train. We're doing runaway train movies. We did unstoppable last we did runaway train last week, and this week we're doing Unstoppable 2010 by Tony Scott. My name is Von Gonziola. With me as always. It's Luke. Luke, how the hell are you ready to get are you ready to get aboard the fun train here?
SPEAKER_08Chew choo.
SPEAKER_04All aboard. Have you ever seen this movie before?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I didn't remember anything about it. It's something about Tony Scott movies where I know I've seen them and then I watch them and stuff comes back to me, but they're more like sense memories.
SPEAKER_04Sure, like a sound, a particular sound effect or like a flash of light will just kind of like trigger like almost like an acid flashback.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it's because I find his movies to be viscerally kind of upsetting and ugly to look at and difficult to stay focused on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I this is where we kind of I knew we would differ on this because I am definitely a lot more uh open to Tony Scott's movies. I don't even know if I love them, but there's there's a couple that I love. Crimson Tide is fucking awesome. Uh but I do definitely like them more than you do. Uh, but he's got some bold choices in his movies, and you kind of they either work on you or they don't.
SPEAKER_08This is one of his better late ones.
SPEAKER_04This is his last one, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Is it his last film?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, two years after this, he uh tragically committed suicide. Uh uh we don't need to belabor it too much, but yeah, it was very sad. He didn't nobody knows why he did it except for his family and the the law authorities he left a note that was never read aloud to the public, but yeah, he jumped off a we know what was on there, folks.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it was our podcast.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. He said this is because of high and low movie show. I know they're gonna was he English? I know they're gonna cover one of my movies.
SPEAKER_08In 16 years, they're gonna cover one of my movies, and I know then that Luke's not gonna like it. Isn't it? Luke's not gonna like it, isn't it? Yeah, so anyways, that's we We were not gonna make any jokes about it.
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, no. I like Tony Scott's movies overall. I I think that they are they for me, they're Michael Bay movies that I actually enjoy. Like for me, it's in a lot of his stuff is kind of in the same for me.
SPEAKER_08They're Michael Bay movies that I can't enjoy because they're just so vulgar. So difficult to look at. He doesn't focus on one shot for more than four seconds. If you if the second you are watching this and you realize that every shot is between one and four seconds long, every shot in the movie, it actually hurts your brain. It immediately gives you a migraine.
SPEAKER_04This movie is more than any it's the most frenetic movie I think I've ever seen of him. But it doesn't matter. Which makes sense because it's on a train.
SPEAKER_08It doesn't need to be, but not everything needs to be. When you have a close-up of Denzel Washington delivering a monologue, I don't need 17 cuts. We have I promise it's not boring. When you have a close-up of Denzel Washington delivering a monologue, he's the best guy in the world at doing that.
SPEAKER_04The guy he barely opens his mouth and I'm like, I'm in. And then it's like, oh, there's still an hour and a half left in this movie? Okay, this is great. Besides that, it's a pretty solid movie. Yeah. It's good. I think it's got some issues, but I think the color, I it looks great. I love whatever filter or whatever he's doing, the greens are so flush and deep and pissed all over me fucking frames.
SPEAKER_08I take all the film, I piss all over it. That's me secret. You said piss is useless. Not when it's in Tony Scott's dick. That's my secret, bruv.
SPEAKER_03It's just a simple little simple little trick that I learned from me nan. She used to piss it all over my camera, over my family pictures, and then I would think, hey, that'd be good in a film, wouldn't it, eh? That'd be good in a film, isn't it? It's me.
SPEAKER_04I've never heard Tony Scott speak in my life. I've bar I've barely heard Ridley Scott speak. Yeah, no, me neither. But uh, okay. Who's your Scott?
SPEAKER_08Who's your Scott? Pretty clearly Ridley. I think anybody is just being contrarian if they pick Tony and and just to be clear, we're having some fun here. Oh, we're having we're taking the piss, as they say, across the pond. As Tony might say. I'm taking the piss. But I'm I find that really sad. That he jumped off a bridge. It's a horribly sad story. Yeah, like terribly sad. He I may not have uh enjoyed any of his films, but uh that's sad. Okay, I don't want to like Don't anybody do that. No, no, no, no, no, no, yeah, no, no, no, no. Unless you are Brett Ratner or some other filmmaker that I really don't like personally.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, so I don't think we need to heap not to like trauma dump and like make this like even fucking sadder, but he jumped off of a bridge and landed next to a tour boat in Los Angeles.
SPEAKER_06Jesus. Right? I've never heard this.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, me neither, until I was doing again my very base level research for this podcast. I just oh, but yeah.
SPEAKER_08He's really getting the LA tour. Like, holy shit, like there's the director of Top Gun. What's he doing? Oh god.
SPEAKER_04Ah yeah, no, it's just so brutal. Like, that would be a traumatic experience in and of itself, and then to have it be like some super famous director, be like, what the fuck is anyways? Bizarre, tragic story, very sad. So this movie was his last movie, came out two years before he passed. If he had died after taking Pelham 123, that's like a bit of a tainted legacy. I think Unstoppable is a solid enough movie to be the last one you do.
SPEAKER_08This is obviously a screenplay that got passed around. It's based on a true event. Yeah, the uh which I learned after I watched the movie. I was surprised to find out, but also it kind of made a little more sense why this movie's so devoted to geography and time. Very much.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so it's based on this, I think the CX8888, which was a runaway train, happened. The situation of how it started was similar, quite similar, and a lot of details were changed. But yeah, this runaway train that was, I think, even longer, or was it was like 40 cars long, which is fucking insane. Like if you've 40 car long train. If you've ever sat waiting for a train to go by, you've counted how many cars there are. You kind of have more than 40. Yeah, but like it's a lot of train. It's the size of the Christ they're building, okay? And uh some small changes. They only had a couple cars full of the most deadly toxic chemical known to man, apparently, molten phenol or whatever, you know. Yeah, they didn't have as much, but they had to. I guess two doesn't sound that like a big deal.
SPEAKER_08It's a lot when it's coming at you at fucking 80 miles an hour.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, with however many diesel cars. But yes, it was a true story, and they did stop the train, like similar to this. Like, it's insane that like people actually did that. Like they caught up to it and put it too. So like it's uh that's a harrowing story. And one of the people who um I forget his name, one of the people who stopped the train was a consultant on the movie. He was one of the engineer who stopped the train or was part of that, and his wife passed away prior, like prior to the movie being made, and that's uh the movie's in uh memory to her, and I thought that's a very sweet thing. Usually it's like some horrible thing has happened to a stunt man on set or something like that. But in this case, it was just like a family member of a consultant on the movie, but they thought, you know, they dedicated to her because it's like a nice thing to do for someone very near and dear to the production of the movie. That's nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Hey, maybe we should start dedicating movies to people before they die. Hey? You ever think about that? New rule. Yeah, here's what's gonna happen. Just give people their flowers while they're still above the dirt. Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum and um.
SPEAKER_04Take all your friends and loved ones to your local pub and uh dedicate, have them all dedicate a movie to you. Don't wait till you're dead. Do it while you're still above ground. Yeah. Have them give you some daisies before you're pushing up daisies, you know? Right on. Right on. Can I just be real for a minute? Obviously, Tony Scott, he's directed some massive movies. Top Gun, uh, Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide.
SPEAKER_08True romance.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so he's like done a lot of shit.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, he had a really bad fallow period in the aughts, and I feel like I saw all those movies too, and they were all really bad.
SPEAKER_04I saw Taking Pelum 123 in the theater, man.
SPEAKER_08Oh, brutal. That was uh I don't think I've seen his remake.
SPEAKER_04It's it'll come up on here. I keep threatening to talk about it. I can't do it anytime soon. I think this was a brilliant strategic move on your point, on your part, because I've talked about doing it, and you're like, how about we do these train movies first? So now I can't do train movies next time. So it's gonna be a bit until we get around to it.
SPEAKER_08Also, it's just a better train movie, probably, than his remake of 1, 2, 3. Oh, yes, I think so too. Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 is a perfect movie. And the last thing I want is Tony Scott's directorial touch on that.
SPEAKER_04It's kind of funny, like he kind of turned into a train guy in his uh the last few years of his life, huh? He's like, Well, uh, what if I do all train movies? It happens to all of us white men. I know. It'll have oh my god, I have a toy, I have a toy caboose in my hand. I don't remember picking that up. Oh no. So yeah, Tony Scott, good guy. Who do we got in this movie? We got Denzel Washington, welcome back to the pod. With open arms, we embrace him. Chris Pine, welcome back to the pod. Bit of a murderous row of character actors in this movie. Like, people are willing to work on a Tony Scott movie and like have a pretty good time, I think.
SPEAKER_08Fair bit here, yeah. Yeah, we've got three Kevins: a Dunn, a Corrigan, and a Chapman.
SPEAKER_04That's too many, and uh Corrigan's my favorite.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I love Kevin Corrigan. Anytime he shows up in a movie, he's like a character actor. He's kind of like your budget Mark Ruffalo, maybe.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's like a little bit, could be a little bit uh shy, but like got a good head on his shoulders.
SPEAKER_08I feel like the biggest he popped was in Super Bad.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Which and he's in the movie for like two minutes.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, he's also in like Goodfellas, I think.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he yeah, I think that maybe was his first movie.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04He's in that, he's in community. He's anytime he comes up, I fucking love him. And I'm I was actually happy that his role was a surprisingly beefy in this. Yeah. He's in it and he's in a role. He sticks around for a little bit, and I'm like, hello, thank you. Hello. Hello.
SPEAKER_08Yes, Queen, go off.
SPEAKER_04Uh Rosario Dawson.
SPEAKER_08Looking hot as hell in this movie, I must say. Yeah, this is kind of a little She's like in a hoodie and fucking with like her ponytail up. She's in girlfriend mode. I was like, damn. I've never looked at her quite that way.
SPEAKER_04It's a little past the height of her powers, but she's still very much like doing big movies at this time and fucking awesome. I love I love Rosario Dawson.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_08Um, so the movie starts off. It's morning time. We got Chris Pine waking up. It's Brewster, South Pennsylvania. Now, the funny thing about this movie, they fictionalized the whole story. So they made up fictional towns in Pennsylvania instead of using the real towns in Pennsylvania. And it's slavishly devoted to its fictional geography. Yes. But I found amusing throughout the film.
SPEAKER_04Me too. And it's very geography is very important to this movie.
SPEAKER_09Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04Couple things. I guess this movie is like a living, breathing high school math question, right? The whole fucking thing is like a train leaves this station at this time going this speed, and another train leaves. Like, and that's what everybody's trying to figure out throughout the whole time. When will these trains meet? Hopefully they can meet before the the this dangerous chemical plant explodes and the whole like county is eradicated. Yeah, not so stupid now, is it? Yeah. Shit, my math teacher is just Mr. Seacos is just rolling over in his grave because I failed his class. None of that's true. I don't know if he's dead.
SPEAKER_08You didn't peel you didn't fail his class. I didn't fail his class. We did pee on his grave.
SPEAKER_03That's another good use for piss. Pissing on graves. That's how you make the tombstone shine. That warden rankin''s full of shit, man. Piss has got plenty of good uses. Shit. If I'd have been a consultant on runaway train, I would have told him at least five good uses for piss.
SPEAKER_08He's on his knees, piss. Pissing.
SPEAKER_03Pissing and peeping in his diaper. Shee, that warden ranking don't know shit from a shinola, I tell you what.
SPEAKER_08So Will Colson, we meet. That's put that's Chris Pine's character in this movie. He wakes up, nice normal day, like any guy like me, spies on his estranged family. I mean, but what are you gonna do? Like, are you what are you gonna not spy on your estranged family?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I like if he's doing it right, he's hiring a surveyor to make sure that he's just out of reach of that spoiler, spoiler alert, uh restraining order. I love how his character is like not really redeemable in this movie. Like, you like at his backstory, he's like, Okay, you're fucking psyched. You're like super possessive and jealous. I gotta get this out of the way. I do have a problem with this movie. I don't love it all the way through. I got I got no good impressions for this movie. The last one, you have these such huge performances, and Chris Pine's being a little subdued, he's doing his kind of like little Boy Scout routine here.
SPEAKER_08He hasn't figured it out yet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and you know, Denzel's fine.
SPEAKER_08He's phoning it in.
SPEAKER_04I mean a little bit, yeah.
SPEAKER_08As much as Denzel can. He's just doing his Denzel thing. The paternal uh job that he's been doing for 30 years.
SPEAKER_04Yes, taking him under his wing, showing him around.
SPEAKER_08So he checks in to work at the rail yard. He's looking for a Frank Barnes, one Frank Barnes well you found him. It's Denzel Washington sitting at a table with a bunch of other old timers.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they're all just giving pie in the stink I hear. Nobody likes this will guy one little bit. He's got a yellow vest.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we hate the yellow vest.
SPEAKER_04Holy shit.
SPEAKER_08I'm telling you, I watched the beginning of this movie three times. I'm gonna keep it a buck with you people here, because this is the high and low podcast. I watched this movie a lot of times this week. I fell asleep at the last 30 minutes three times. Thing is, once you know what they're gonna do to stop that train, the movie is on rails. So, so to speak. It really does just kind of coast after a little bit. Um but anyway, I did I could not parse what the yellow vest thing was.
SPEAKER_04So I rented Enemy at the Gates like four times when I was Tony Scott, too. It's not Tony Scott, but uh it just you talk about falling asleep, remind me of that. Like I rented like two or three or four times, and I would keep watching it, and then I would fall asleep, and I just would think that I would just like nod off and I'd wake up and I'd see the end, and like at the exact same time, every single time, and I'd wake up at the exact same time, and then I had to return it, didn't want to have to like pay the late fees, incur the wrath of you know my mom or whatever. So then I'd go rent it again, and it just would keep happening. And then one time I watched the special features and they start talking about this fucking insane sniper battle that happens. Like, what is this? This doesn't happen in the movie, and like it turns out when I finally watched it the whole way through like 45 minutes of the movie or half an hour, I would just like fall asleep through, and it was like a perfect black spot. And that's that's the one with Jude Law, Jude Law, uh Raquel Weiss, Raquel Rachel Vice, Rachel Weiss, yeah, uh Ed Harris.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I liked that movie.
SPEAKER_04I think I I don't know if I liked it. I kept trying to watch it, but I also kept falling asleep. It's a mystery to me. I think maybe it's a little boring in the middle. This is what my body was trying to tell me. I don't know. Maybe you have that problem with this movie a little. Maybe it's a little boring in the middle.
SPEAKER_08I think just maybe this movie just makes my eyes tired. Could be.
SPEAKER_04Oh, and there's so much shit going on in every single frame. Like there's just a lot of shit going on, and it's jumping all over the place.
SPEAKER_08It just made me want to watch an Ozu movie. Something nice, something with like a a steady shot, a clear frame. Just let some people talk and hash it out. So the old time. They're like, well, I don't like working at a goddamn daycare center. They say to the six feet tall, 30-year-old Chris Pine. Colson and Barnes, they're working together today on 1206.
SPEAKER_041206. That's very important. Yeah. That's how you can tell which train is which. They have numbers on them.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. This is some insider train knowledge. So the old guy says he's a Nepo baby. Uh basically explains this to Barnes, and he's like, Oh yeah. His name's Colson, so-and-so's son or something. He's like, Yeah, and they're laying off old guys day after day to bring in these new guys who are working for less pay. Yeah. Because they're new. See, my assumption is they're all on the same union. That makes sense. They're laying off the guys that are getting high pay grades a little bit earlier than they want.
SPEAKER_04That makes sense. A big chunk of what this movie is about is how the old guys know it best, right? The old like the ain't nobody does it like the old men do.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But also the kids are kind of alright, aren't they? Because they uh they'll they'll spill some blood for the job, they'll lay their life on the line.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, some of them are okay, but they really have to earn it. Yeah, you gotta because they don't know it like us old guys do.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. I want old men driving my train cars.
SPEAKER_08I want old men old men in the White House. I can just old man everything young man.
SPEAKER_04Can we just give them all our money? And can we just like have them live forever?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, can we just have six or seven geriatrics run the entire world? I think that'd be best. Tyrannical authority over every single facet of our lives. You know what? I think that's probably the best.
SPEAKER_04It's so funny. Last week I had a fucking knockout week, and I found a lamp in the middle of like this cave, and I and a genie I wiped it and a genie popped out, and that's what I wish for.
SPEAKER_08Oh!
SPEAKER_04So So it was you. It was me!
SPEAKER_08That's why everything's great, great.
SPEAKER_04It's the best. Yeah, it's the best I could ever hope for. It's I love I love it.
SPEAKER_08Send your thank you letters to gmail.com.
SPEAKER_04That's exactly right.
SPEAKER_08So Fulleryard, Northern Penta Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_04I'm just glad you can't send letter bombs through email yet.
SPEAKER_08Uh uh. Here we got Ethan Soupley and TJ Miller in northern Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_04Man, I told I knew TJ Miller was in this, and I totally didn't even clock that it was him somehow. I'm just like How do you not recognize that voice right away? I don't know. I just like kind of glazed over somehow.
SPEAKER_08But the thing about him is he's not really doing comedy in this. He's just actually a fine actor. Yeah. Um, maybe an asshole in person. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04But that's the thing with him, right? He's just turns out that he's he's like a problem on set and an asshole.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, like a drunk, and he just takes jokes too far, from what I can tell. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Fuck he's so fucking funny. I don't know.
SPEAKER_08He's funny in lots of shit. That's the thing. Yeah. And then it's like people telling, well, we had to cancel him, kick him out of Hollywood because he did this, this, and this. I'm like, yeah, but all that shit's funny. Yes, those are those are maybe he did some sex stuff, I don't know about, but the shit I heard about was just plain taking a joke well beyond the point where anyone's comfortable with it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Meanwhile, uh which is funny to me. Noted sex pest uh James Franco is back at Cans for the first time since he's been castled. Yeah, like people will just bring uh these people in, but TJ Miller, I don't know what he did. Maybe, maybe he's a real fucking piece of shit, but like from what I've heard, he's just an asshole.
SPEAKER_08So we got Dumb and Dumber here, Ethan Soupley, Pussy Posse alumni. Uh they're these hostlers, they're munching sandwiches. They're supposed to be getting this train out of the way because there's some kids coming on a field trip train coming in the opposite direction down that main line track. 150 enthusiastic school students.
SPEAKER_04They are so specific with the kids, and it's just such a thing. It's uh it's such a hilarious reason to get this whole inciting incident going on here. And yeah, these guys, Ethan Supla, Dewey and what's uh whatever TJ Miller's guy's name is Galise, I think. Yeah, Dewey and Galise, fucking top-tier oofs. These guys suck at their jobs so hard.
SPEAKER_08Um, so in Wheeling, Northern Pennsylvania, uh, kids we see all the kids boarding a train to learn about safety on rail. Uh certainly they won't be in any mortal peril today. Oh boy, I picked the wrong this uh so yeah.
SPEAKER_04This movie is uh A plus at let's put X let's just like keep adding dangerous scenarios and people who can be endangered and killed and maimed and whatever by this train. Let's keep stacking up that up and also let's make this Rosario Dawson's worst day at work ever. Let's let's have her supervisor call in, let's have an inspector come in and just try to make you have your worst day on the job. Let's have a little ghost come through here and squeeze out a little cum shot and just bad day, but really bad luck for her.
SPEAKER_08Like it is kind of like uh what was that movie? Uh humanoids from the deep, where it's like people just getting fed into the meat grinder of these fish people that go about five meters out from the beach. Maybe just stay away from the beach for starters. Uh it's a meat grinder. Just stay away from the train tracks. Everyone stay away from train tracks.
SPEAKER_04God damn, I saw enough PSAs when I was a kid to know to stay away from train tracks. They're building cities around these things? Come on.
SPEAKER_08Are you kidding me? So what's our day? Uh Denzel Washington asks Colson. He loves quizzing them on all kinds of stuff, so he's testing the new guy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's kind of giving him like some like he's throwing a couple curveballs at him and uh Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Well, well, Colson's like, well, they got us going on light power, supposed to speed up. Pick up 25 cars just past Stanton, and then it's pretty much a straight shot through Wilkins. Any slow orders? No. You sure? They'd be highlighted in red. Chris Pine's a little too straight laced in this one. Yeah, I only got one rule, okay? You're gonna do something, you do it right. You're the conductor. This is your train. I'm just the engineer, alright? So, you know, he's giving him that pet talking. And as he's saying this, we're seeing Dewey and fucking Ghalice totally fuck up their jobs. Yeah, they are just even their name, Dewey. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I'm sure if you're a Dewey, maybe you're fine. I don't know. Just don't if you're a Dewey, how about you don't work at a rail yard? Okay. Can you do me that favor? If you're a Dewey, maybe you should Dewey yourself off. Uh a favor. This is a uh not off a bridge. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_08Well that's not what I was saying.
SPEAKER_03So Frank uh Yeah, Ethan, you gotta be more oafish. More oafish love. Don't be afraid to really fall and make a fucking ass of yourself.
SPEAKER_08So it should be noted there in southern Pennsylvania where they start their journey.
SPEAKER_04Um I hope you l like Pennsylvania geography. Yeah. Because we go all over but fictionally, but we do go all over the place.
SPEAKER_08It's the home of Dracula.
SPEAKER_04So Stanton's supposed to be Scranton, right? Yeah, home of Joseph Biden. Oh, yeah. I love that. And uh everybody else there doesn't matter. Um God, we got trains running away.
SPEAKER_01Got a train running over my house, man.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_01I love that move uh but the train that's unstopped. What's a runaway train?
SPEAKER_06Hey man, they never stop that train. No.
SPEAKER_01Hey man, move my house. Get get commander, get get commander out of my house, then move my house so the train doesn't hit it.
SPEAKER_08Um, so Frank he he pulls out some pictures of his grown-ass daughters and he kisses it and hangs up the pictures. Uh we get a call, well, Will gets a call from his brother, who is played by Jeff Wincott, by the way. Jeff Wincott.
SPEAKER_04Jeff, yeah, the the more famous Wincott.
SPEAKER_08The brother of Michael Wincott.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Uh who is uh sort of a martial arts star in the early 90s. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Oh god. Was it better better or worse? I don't know. They should have had him in a gi the whole time, probably like pacing in front of a dojo. Instead, he's just a bit of a Debbie Downer. Every time he phones him, he's just got more bad news.
SPEAKER_08Well, this time he was good news.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's right. He's like, hey, your lawyer says it's good.
SPEAKER_08Actually, the progression of uh Will uh but the the news gets progressively worse. It's so funny. So he's got a restraining order on his wife, and he's like, Oh, the restraining order, there's a hearing. Oh no, wait. Now now in the restraining order is it's bad. No, and don't try to contact your wife.
SPEAKER_04Every time he phones him, it's bad. Oh, bad news, Will. Your apartment's infested with killer bees. Some careless resident dropped a jar full of 10,000 killer bees, and now your apartment's infected. You can't go home to your apartment after today, Will.
SPEAKER_08Got your test results back, Will. It's the clap.
SPEAKER_04Somehow it's like super syphilis clap. I don't know what happened. It's got some kind of goddamn gila monster, some kind of goddamn chimera STD. Shit, Will, I'm sorry. I hate to I hate to ruin your first day at work. How's your new job, by the way?
SPEAKER_08So back at Fuller, we see Dewey, he's running behind. He they're on his case. They're like, get that fucking train moving quicker. And he's like, well, it's got 39 cars. I can't move it any quicker without punching it. So he punches it. Galeese, that's TJ Miller. He's like, hey, Dewey, the air brakes are not connected on this trade. Dewey's like, yeah, yeah, we can tie the hoses once they get off by ass. And we get it parked. Once Bunny, the dispatcher, quits his bitching.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So now they're crawling along. He's, you know, slowly, slowly accelerating because he's got 40 fucking cars going here. Yeah, 10 million tons of steel. Yeah. He realizes the train is uh aligned to D16 because it was fucking slick last night and it caused the malfunction, so he has to go out and manually change it. So why is it put him on a collision course with the kids?
SPEAKER_04Why isn't Galiese doing this? Is he not just Dewey's closer or what?
SPEAKER_08Galice is further down the train.
SPEAKER_04That's fucking stupid, man.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So no time to stop. He could stop the train and back up. And then they could switch it, which is what Galice says to do, and Dewey's like, no, that'll cost us too much time, and these guys are on my case. So he naturally sets the throttle. He sets the independent brake to kick in, but no, he sets the throttle and he waddles out to fucking chart uh change the tracks. The independent brake cranks the throttle and it speeds away. And he is too fat and slow because he's Ethan Suple. He's too busy getting pussy with Leonardo DiCaprio.
SPEAKER_04This is Ethan Suple before he got jacked. I don't know if you've seen the guy lately. He's like lost the weight and he's like fucking jacked, but he's still got all his.
SPEAKER_08That's horrifying. I don't want to ever see that. He's got the skin hold.
SPEAKER_04He's got the skin hanging from him, like a badge of honor. I don't want that.
SPEAKER_08I'm so I don't want it to exist in the world.
SPEAKER_04I want my Ethan Supli's big.
SPEAKER_08We need more fat guy actors.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I'm happy for the guy to get healthy. Fair enough. Fair enough.
SPEAKER_08Rather, he's a big fat guy, alright?
SPEAKER_04You know what? After this episode, maybe I'm gonna go slide a slice of pizza under his door. Maybe get him back on the train. Get him back on the train.
SPEAKER_08A couple of Italian subs.
SPEAKER_04A couple extra meatballs. Yeah, uh, you know, but the world needs a bit more, a bit more chub, a bit more chunk in Hollywood.
SPEAKER_02The world is such a beautiful place.
SPEAKER_04That's the whale, Brendan Fraser. Oh shit, I thought that was uh the crow.
SPEAKER_08I think that's what he says in the whale.
SPEAKER_04Who fucking can remember that movie?
SPEAKER_08Like, seriously.
SPEAKER_04I watch it, I can't. Uh he like goes to heaven. I don't know, maybe, but not for me. Not not I wish he didn't bring up the whale. I will I don't want to talk about the whale. So the Milesburg Yard in Southern Pennsylvania. We gotta talk about train safety, okay? Because this movie, you we talked train folks or train folks, they're particular. This movie caused a shitstorm in the train yard, like the professional trainer community.
SPEAKER_08Oh, did it?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like people working in train yards, like people came out from like the unions and the safety associations and shit, and be like, this is not how we work on train yards, this is not how safety protocols work, this is not how any of this would go down, and this is not like people took umbrage with it. Uh what happened?
SPEAKER_08I mean, I read the Wikipedia of the story it's based on, and it sounds like that's more or less what these fuckwits did.
SPEAKER_04I think that it's like the uh the way everybody would respond to it. Like, I think how the accident, how the whole situation started was fine, but it's like the they wouldn't do this, they wouldn't like try to derail it here, they wouldn't try to do it that like we're nitpicky, like people who are too close to the situation just picking holes in the way that the all those details of the plot went about. I think uh get a life. It's a movie. It's a movie, it's America.
SPEAKER_06Come on, come on, man. It's just a movie, man. Commander likes training. I'm out. What's the problem? I'm from Stanton, and no, not Stanton. Uh Scranton. Scranton, Pennsylvania, man.
SPEAKER_04Just come on. Train's running away. America's like a runaway train sometimes. Get that that train's America. Never go on, never turn back. America's on a one-way train.
SPEAKER_08So Miles Pergyard, Southern Pennsylvania. Frank, he's a note he left for himself. Uh Nicole's birthday. So he knows right away he's in shit for forgetting his daughter's birthday.
SPEAKER_04Okay, was what so I'm confused about when her birthday is. It was probably yesterday, right?
SPEAKER_08It must have been yesterday. Uh, but although the movie doesn't make that clear.
SPEAKER_04It kind of makes it seem like it's her birthday today and she's pissed off that she he didn't call her like earlier. Right? But it's like nine in the morning.
SPEAKER_08You can't be that pissed off that your father's calling you in the morning on your birthday.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So that's that's why I'm assuming he's a day behind.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's uh he's a shitty dad. Yeah. So is Chris Pine. These both these guys are shitty dads. As they bond over that.
SPEAKER_08I assume.
SPEAKER_04As most train drivers. Yeah. Most train guys.
SPEAKER_08Rail workers in general.
SPEAKER_04They're working on the you know, the midnight special, they're working on the uh all Midnight Express, they're working on all the trains at midnight, and that's what family time, that's prime family time. So the Orient Express. Yeah, they're on that too. They have committing murders what else, or maybe witnessing what who knows? Yeah, getting berated, screamed at by some outrageous French detective. If you can be a good family person, if you can do it, good for you, and also tell us a story about it. Tell us a story about how you didn't let your family down while working as a rail worker. Huh?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I'll believe it when I fucking hear it.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_08So Nicole, her bro her sister says she's got a date tonight, and right away, like, Denzel's snapping, woo-hoop! Woo-hoo! Like, buddy, she's grown.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And also, you know, Nicole picks, you know, she hands the phone to Nicole, she hangs up on his ice cold. He's a single dad. Yeah, this is how his fucking daughters that he kisses their pictures treat him. Man, you fucked up. Well, by the way, they work at Hooters. Oh, we find out in this scene.
SPEAKER_04Holy fucking product placement for a place that is like I don't understand how it's still in business. Is it? They have one in Niagara Falls. Oh, nice. Went there every night. So every night for dinner when I was there on vacation. We went to Hooters every single night. Hooters. Fine. What do you want? Hooters. Did you go there? No. I haven't been too. There's one down the street from the hotel, so like I saw it all the time.
SPEAKER_08I would have wanted to go. I would I might have gotten there.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I've been there before. Have you ever been to a Hooters before? I went and I'm like, I don't fucking get this place.
SPEAKER_08It's not a their food wasn't that good. Their food wasn't that good. The service Edmonton and the women weren't that cute.
SPEAKER_04Well, sure. But like I went there when I was like, it should have been amazing. Like I was like a teenager, like young.
SPEAKER_08I don't know. What would you think? What would you think would happen? They just fucking suck your dick while you're eating chicken wings.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm like, why would I come?
SPEAKER_04Maybe. Maybe that is what I thought would happen. I don't know. But something didn't live up to the hype in my mind for some reason.
SPEAKER_08What could what could possibly?
SPEAKER_04I went like this is just a restaurant. Well, because like Hooters is a an institution of sorts. Like, it's a joke. It's played for a joke in this movie. It's been played for a joke in movies for decades. Yeah. Probably not since this movie, but like there was a stretch where like Hooters was a punchline. So I don't know what I was expecting, but I walked in and like it was not it was just a restaurant, which is what else would it be? But also, what are we doing here? What are we doing with Hooters?
SPEAKER_08What are we doing here?
SPEAKER_04We're eating some wings and watching a hockey game, I would think. I guess so. I I just don't need to go to the other side of the so you said you wanted hyper-specific local geopolitics and geography. I just don't need to go to the other side of the city to the mall to Hooters to watch a game when I could go to the other bar.
SPEAKER_08Um so they bond over both having families in Stanton. Uh Frank says, you know, his marriage, oh my marriage was a bit of a short story, but I got two daughters out of it, 18 and 19. Uh and and they're paying their way through college working at Hooters. Alright, that's right. Hooters. You're blushing. Hooters. I see you blushing.
SPEAKER_04Wipe that grin off your face.
SPEAKER_01Hooters. Hooters, hooters.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Hooters, it plays such an important role in this movie. In that it gets brought up a bunch, and there's like some emotional scenes in a Hooters. And you can tell it's in a Hooters because they have ten Hooters waitresses that they brought from every single corner of the country to all be in this movie.
SPEAKER_08I didn't even think about how it was product placed it.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, it's fucking weird.
SPEAKER_08It worked so well on me. All I can think about was, man, I'd like to go to Hooters.
SPEAKER_04I know. I well, I thought you already did because you got the bib covered in chicken wing and hot sauce.
SPEAKER_08That's just my regular look.
SPEAKER_04Wh I'm a baby. You caught me eating my wings. Meh. Uh, is this has uh Chris Pine fucked up with uh getting the train in the right direction yet? At one point they go to the switching yard and he gets his he gets the engine pointed in the wrong direction, and Denzel Washington says Denzel's giving him a hard time.
SPEAKER_08Uh it doesn't get it pointed in the wrong direction. Doesn't he pick up too many train cars?
SPEAKER_04He does both, he fucks up a bunch. This must have been where you fell asleep.
SPEAKER_08No, this is early in the movie. I watched this several times. I don't know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_04No, they go to the switching yard and he's like, okay, ready to go. And Denzel's like, yeah, you're ready to go. Except you're going in the wrong direction. This train, if you go with that, the train will go backwards. The trains will go backwards. And uh yeah, it's a big thing. He calls him an idiot. And then I think he starts talking about they start talking about family stuff.
SPEAKER_08God damn it, this movie.
SPEAKER_04It's a lot, it's it's a lot.
SPEAKER_08It's so hard for me to focus on with all the rapid editing. I really had a hard time watching this. I really, really don't like it.
SPEAKER_04Oh, well, you know, it's it's got a lot going on.
SPEAKER_08Yep. So enter Yardmaster Connie Hooper. Personally, my favorite part of this movie, Rosario Dawson. She's so good in this.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and she comes in carrying like 10,000 donuts. Yeah, like enough. Yeah. She's got boxes and boxes and boxes of donuts.
SPEAKER_08I want her as a boss so bad.
SPEAKER_04She seems like the best boss in the world.
SPEAKER_08Like she cares. She tries so hard.
SPEAKER_04She doesn't even chew out Dewey that hard. While she's like, you know, does kind of give him a hard time of like, not bad.
SPEAKER_08I'd rather those guys they get what's going on. She gets a bad job. She gets the bad news the second she walks in the fucking door and blowjob brothers. They're like, Oh yeah, we figure it's going no more than 10 miles an hour. This runaway train that we just let go. They think it's a coaster. Yeah. And uh she's like, Well, get on the high track and fucking catch it. And they're like, Oh, ball buster. I love so yeah.
SPEAKER_04These two guys, his woman's a ball buster. The way they play it, they take zero accountability for this whole situation. They are just pissed off at everybody else being annoyed that they let a fucking mile-long train like go. Go, and like it seems like a huge fuck up, and they don't think it's a big deal at all yet. They do later, but like it's like the biggest fuck up in history.
SPEAKER_08It is insane with potentially catastrophic. Oops, I launched and dropped an atomic bomb. Yeah, like fuck up. It couldn't be a bigger fuck-up. Yeah. So they radio the field trip conductor. They don't realize yet how close it's gonna be to the kid's train because they don't know that 777 is accelerating.
SPEAKER_04Yes. No, they don't know it's underpower, they keep saying it's underpower. Pardon me for my uh laypersonship. I think these episodes are gonna get a bit of a bump because of all the train guys. So we've really gotta come correct here.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_04I'm just saying, we're getting the train bump.
SPEAKER_08Oh boy, I'm nervous. So Hooper. You don't like train guys, huh? I'm gonna find you high and low if it's the last thing I do. Gonna get a fucking train through the middle of my uh townhouse here. The next time you come near a train trap. You better watch out because I'm gonna be watching you. Keep your head on a fucking swivel. Ah, we can't do anything. He's not on the track.
SPEAKER_03I can only exist on a train track. I'm a train guy.
SPEAKER_08Uh so Hooper, that's Rosario Dawson. She calls the lead welder, Ned, who is uh apparently busy menacing a diner waitress. I love Ned. I love Ned.
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, I guess. Sorry, if I made it seem like there's no big performances or nothing you can really grab onto for an impression. Ned This guy's the true hero of the movie, by the way. Fucking yeah, he is. And this guy's got gumption. He takes initiative and figures shit out on his own. Yeah, and he's just a beast. And like, not to get jump ahead to the end of the movie, but like he fucking winds up to be president of the company or something, right? Like, they kind of make it seem like he's going places because everybody loves him at the press conference at the end. People are like drooling over Ned, Ned, Ned, Ned.
SPEAKER_08I do love that there's a side character who basically does more to help. Anyway.
SPEAKER_04No, yeah. I actually love all the side characters in the so in the in Runaway train, it's it's up to just the people on the train. They get a little bit of help from the control room. But in this movie, it is like a bunch of different people kind of all working together and figuring it out, but without actually working together, like a lot of them, right? Like they're all kind of doing in their own worlds, but kind of contributing in their own way. It's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So Ned gets the call, he you know, tosses a loony at that poor waitress, peels off in his fucking Dewy pickup truck. Oh, he's got he would fucking be right at home in this neck of the woods. Stop the train.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08Um, he's what most redneck truck drivers think they are or wish they could be. He's just the best. He meets Dewey and Ghice at the Switch, but obviously the train's passed already. Dewey and Galiese are in one of those pickup trucks that go on the train tracks.
SPEAKER_04I love those. I think they're so cool. But they like drop train wheels on them when they can drive on the tracks or they can drive off the tracks.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Um, so he's like, well, obviously the train's passed already, and they're like, no shit, dipshit. I'm TJ Miller. Fuck you. Suck my dick. How come you didn't stop the train we let loose?
SPEAKER_04It's your fucking problem.
SPEAKER_08So Connie tells Ned to take off in pursuit, and they now all understand that it's underpower.
SPEAKER_04Yes, and now the situation is a lot more dire, and people are taking it even more seriously.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. And then an FRA inspector, Scott Werner, played by Kevin Corrigan, he shows up asking Connie questions while she's trying to reach Galvin, played by Kevin Dunn, the head honcho of AWVR, the rail network.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so it's just a quick bam, bam. You ready for these character actors? They're gonna be in the rest of the movie.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And I fucking love it. I uh Kevin Corrigan in this, I just love that the inspector shows up just then, and like it turns out he's a super cool guy and super knowledgeable.
SPEAKER_08Like in another just like there to help.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, in another type of movie like this, he would be like furiously like writing notes and infractions and shit, but instead he's like, well, actually, like I know exactly what this chemical is, and I know this. And I'm like, it turns out that I'm actually like an astrophysicist, and I just did some back of the napkin math about like I'm good at my job.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, this might actually help you guys.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's great. And uh speak and a person who's a piece of shit, Kevin Dunn, he's not that Kevin Dunn's a piece of shit, but like he's the VP operations, and he's just he's the guy. He's like the guy, he's the boss who just wants to get things done to protect the stock, protect the value of the company. He doesn't uh he gets in the way of the doers of the movie, which are the people on the ground doing the job.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So most of the pieces on the board here. Now we get to the kids' train, we get to see that. I love how it's supposed to be an educational trip, but the only things we hear from the teacher are questions like who's been on a train before?
SPEAKER_02Me, me, me, me, me, me, me.
SPEAKER_08And like, what time is it?
SPEAKER_02Train time.
SPEAKER_08All they're doing is like their educational trip is this is the concept of a train.
SPEAKER_04Yes. So I repeat after me, chew, choo.
SPEAKER_08That's the sound a train makes. And these aren't like kindergartners, these are like kids in like the ninth grade.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they're not going. These are these are adults going to get their GED. They had to do they had to do three hours of train course to get their GED.
SPEAKER_08Nonetheless, these uh yeah, college kids are pretty cute. We don't want to see them all get pancaked by a runaway train.
SPEAKER_04These middle-aged divorcees are just really having a great time on their field trip.
SPEAKER_08And then, yeah, basically the they radio the guy, oh well, you better take that off ramp as quick as you can. He's like, is it really that close? And he sees like the smoke stack coming up from the train.
SPEAKER_04He's like, oh god. I love this guy, he's got the energy of Chris Farley as the bus driver in Billy Madison, yeah. Where he's just like white knuckling it with these all these fucking screaming kids behind him. He's like, oh shit, great. There's a runaway train coming at just wonderful, terrific.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, guess I'm gonna die.
SPEAKER_04Oh fuck. At least I'll die unhappy, the way I live my life. Shit. My god. My god, I would jump off that fucking train if I was him. Before even the runaway. I don't even need the kid, I don't even need the runaway train. I'm just like, there's a hundred and a hundred and fifty. A hundred and that is a massive field trip. When was the last time you went on a field trip with a hundred and fifty people? That's like a quarter of my school. That's like if I'm that's like so many, anyways. I wouldn't even I'd jump off the train before as all of them even made it on. They would just keep piling on, turning my train, my pride, my livelihood into a clown car. I would just like fucking go and jump in a river and just say, This is it. Trains are done, and I'm done because I'm a train guy. All trains are done. Never again. I just think 150 is an obscene amount of time.
SPEAKER_08Oh, we thought about whether we could. We never stopped to think about whether we should cram 150 kids into a train car.
SPEAKER_04Last year there's 130 kids on the train car. They said, That's it. They're not gonna put any more kids on the field trip this year. This year, 150. I can't, I see which way this is going. I'm gonna just get out of this train. I'm never gonna get on a train again. Which is a fate worse than death for a train guy.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Well, most of them just walk into the ocean.
SPEAKER_04Most of them just go live under that bridge in Scanton, Stanton. They live in the in the oil refinery. Yeah. Just waiting for a fiery train, a train fireball to come and just That's the surest death there is for a train guy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08They come within like inches of smoking this train head on.
SPEAKER_04All these like fucking shitty geriatric kids are just shitting themselves with excitement over how close that train is to killing them.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it's pretty intense. Um, now Connie has to explain the situation to the cops, and as lay people stand-ins, we learn stuff like there's a wand that the engineer has to hit periodically, or else the air brakes are applied. That's like a dead man's switch. Uh, but since the air brakes are fucking disconnected, that won't do us any good. Yeah, uh that's a major part of her role in this movie is delivering all kinds of exposition to various people around her who may not understand the ins and outs.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but because of her, she's elegantly done. Yeah, it's it is and you get that, and you also have her boss screaming at her, and he kind of is dumping some stuff about the way things should be going. It all kind of works and like kind of filling in the gaps, the like the plot holes where it's like, well, this should have happened, but it didn't happen because of this, this, this. So just you can sit back and enjoy your movie, which is just a train speeding down a track for the next 60 minutes or so.
SPEAKER_08So Galice, that's TJ Miller. Now they're up next to that fucking thing, and they're on a parallel rail in that truck thing, and he's trying to jump to the train. It's this is pretty intense. Yeah, it's super intense. He almost gets hereditaried by a fucking sign. Oh my god. Basically, they run out of track and the door gets knocked off. Like, it's by a hair. What I don't know, man. Some of the stunts in this movie are fucking incredible.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, like they are blowing shit up. They are uh, you know, this is 2010. There is still lots of space for practical effects and awesome stunt work to just really shine, and it's here, it's it's here in a lot of places. So there's lots of times when this movie's super thrilling, and you're just sitting on the edge of your seat, and this is one of those sequences.
SPEAKER_08Meanwhile, on 1206, uh Frank notices they have five cars too many. He's like, now I know between this this sign right here and that sign right there, that's exactly 21 cars. We yeah, we got five more cars.
SPEAKER_05Don't ask me how I know.
SPEAKER_08Don't ask me how I know.
SPEAKER_04I love that he adds like I would guess because it's your job, but also and you've done the slots. Yeah, you've done been doing this for like 40 years or whatever. Like, I can I can understand why you would know that. Yeah, it's a top secret, it's very, very CD shit.
SPEAKER_08Supposed to pull the pins, you got five pins too many in training. They just give you an F.
SPEAKER_04Out here, you get killed. Here we also uh Pine gets another call from his brother, finds out that things didn't go so well. That's because that's what distracted him, right? That's why he fucked up because he you didn't pull enough pins, did you? And so it turns out that the restraining order is being extended by another 30 days. And so Chris Pine's a little shaken by this, and uh the whole time Denzel's like, get off the phone, get off the phone.
SPEAKER_05You can go unpin those trains.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So then they're like, uh I'm not gonna yell at you. They have a big argument.
SPEAKER_05I don't yell in this movie.
SPEAKER_08It's your ass. It's your ass. You're funny, you're funny, funny guy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, maybe you should do some funny movies sometime.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, because actually he's right. Chris Pine is funny and he works better in comedies. Uh, so they get ratioed or radioed. Man, did you see the tweet on Twitter?
SPEAKER_04Shit man, Frank's been tweeting some pretty weird shit lately. He's getting ratioed.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, he's getting his ass ratioed. They get informed about Runaway 777 and heading right for them. Enter Galvin. So Connie and Inspector uh Werner do some exposition at Galvin, the head honcho guy, about the mol molten phenol and diesel and shit on board.
SPEAKER_04Um Yeah, earlier she's checking her notes and she sees that there's a bunch of molten phenol. Doesn't know what that is, gets the tries to call the distributor, like the pr the manufacturer to figure out what the fuck this is all about, but can't get a hold of them.
SPEAKER_08They don't have uh what do you have?
SPEAKER_04TGG and all the things. SDS card. I mean, yeah, you should you should have an SDS. You should have all that shit f like filled out, but there's a reason for that stuff. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_08You those those rules we ship dangerous chemicals in my line of work too, so they're written in blood, okay? All of those rules. Oh, and they love reminders.
SPEAKER_04God damn it, I just wish, you know. I love safety, and I hate it when a movie flies in the face of it. This movie really pissed me off.
SPEAKER_06Where's your blood? Where's your placards? Blood!
SPEAKER_04These rules are written in blood. Why do you think we have SDS? Why do you think you have a binder? You think this is boring? I'll tell you, boring. A whole city's face is melted off.
SPEAKER_08One drop of this shit. Tell you, boring. You drip this in your head. It's boring a hole through your skull. All the way to Timbuktu.
SPEAKER_03This shit's so dangerous, it'll go right through the center of the earth.
SPEAKER_08It's also useful useful for baby shampoo.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we put little drops of just tiny little drops of them in baby shampoo. But you drop this thing in your backyard, you spill one drop, you can kiss Aaron Eckhart and Hillary Swank goodbye.
SPEAKER_03Because it's gonna burn a hole right through the little ship in the middle of the goddamn earth. The core. You better believe it.
SPEAKER_08Did I see like molten phenol? Yeah, it's transported and handled at elevated temperatures, extreme safety measures are required. And this stuff, like, literally is in everything.
SPEAKER_04It's so weird. Yeah, like apparently it's used in glue. So super brain Kevin Corrigan's like, oh, actually, um, it's used in the manufacturing of glue. He turns out that this guy's a fucking genius, and he'll provide all the scientific exposition from this point on. Thank you very much. But um, this movie really makes you realize and made me think, anyways, I've sat, we live in the prairies, we get long trains here. I've sat and watched dozens and dozens of these cars go by, just filled with the most heinous, toxic shit, and you don't think twice about it. And that's happening all over the place, crisscrossing every which way. Every so often you get these gigantic spills and disasters, but like a lot of things have to go right a lot of the time to like keep all this shit under wraps, or you know, keep it within its container.
SPEAKER_08And like I said, train is very safe.
SPEAKER_04Train is safe, comparatively, train good, train train safe, train safe. We say again, train safe.
SPEAKER_08Uh weren't there like a couple of bad derailments in the states a few years ago? I think you get a you I can't remember any of the. I remember some town getting wiped out in like Ohio or some shit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you do get one every like little bit, every few years, probably like every five or once a decade, you'll probably get a big train disaster.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Because I grew up in Stony Plain, uh, outside of Edmonton, largely, and trains ripped through there. I might have even told this on the podcast already, but like me and my friend, we used to go there and squish pennies on the tracks, and they're going through there at 100 plus kilometers an hour, and we got caught by the RCMP, and they fuck the mounties like brought us in and arrested us. I'm like 10 years old, and they said they like gave us the hardest lecturing to got our parents to come pick us up. They're like, these things can derail a train. And I'll tell you, after seeing this movie, I'm like, those guys are so full of shit. I saw what a train going that fast can do, and like these are trains with a hundred plus cars, a hundred kilometers an hour, going the same speed. I promise you, you cannot derail these fucking things with a derailer. Never mind a penny. Hey, I'm a train guy.
SPEAKER_04I fucking love trains, man. You putting a penny on a train track, it's like coming up and slapping in the face. That's that's coming pissing in my pocket, man.
SPEAKER_08Well, the cop, the way he lectured us, he was like, You could have killed everyone in the town. Do you understand what you've done?
SPEAKER_05I got one rule, I got one rule. I talk fast, I got one rule. You put a penny in that train, you're gonna kill the whole goddamn town. You're gonna kill the whole town.
SPEAKER_07I got one rule. You're gonna kill the whole town? Not my town.
SPEAKER_05I'm dead kid, but you're getting up to no good. You were going down a dangerous path, putting pennies on train tracks. I gotta take you under my wing, I gotta take you, somebody gotta take you and show you how to do things right, do things proper.
SPEAKER_08You like but you like my red uniform? I'm a mounty. This thing's red because the blood of mounties who died in train derailments.
SPEAKER_05Mountie uniforms, every every single one of them is made in blood. They're written in blood. Just like all the rules.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's a funny story. That's like that's so intense. You could have killed a your mother.
SPEAKER_08I believed him.
SPEAKER_04Your sister.
SPEAKER_08I believed him. I was like genuinely worried. I'm like, why aren't trains flying off the tracks? Like your English teacher, all dead.
SPEAKER_04Old little Miss Granny's worth living across the street.
SPEAKER_08Dead.
SPEAKER_04No chance of survival.
SPEAKER_08So Connie gets the big trailer speech. Listen, Galvin, we're not just talking about a train here. We're talking about a missile. The size of the Christ they're building. Um, so she says there's about 12 miles of vacant farmland coming up soon. But after that, it's nothing but towns all the way down to Stanton, which is a city of, you know, three-quarters of a million people. Yeah. So she suggests they derail it fast, but Galvin isn't having it. He's like, oh no, I have to have a meeting with the shareholders soon.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So they don't want it could be bad for the bottom line. Also, it's worth a lot of money. Like the shareholder thing, and also there's a lot of cargo. There's a shitload of cargo on that train, and they don't want to lose it all. It's a big deal. So he's gotta, you know, protect his nut there. But uh turns out he doesn't know nothing because that was the right call. If they just derailed this train right then, they would have been in tip top shape.
SPEAKER_08So, Findlay, North Pennsylvania. Uh Ned pulls up to a crossing in town behind a reporter who demands to know what's going on from the police who are blocking off all the crossings. She's like, Everything's close for 20 miles. What's going on? Maybe you should tell us we're the press. And then some dipshit redneck, he's changing the country music stations, and he doesn't see the cops at first. He's he swerves and plows into a fucking horse trailer that's parked in front of the train tracks.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah. So, like, it's a bit of a de-escalation to go from 150, you know, retirees on a field trip to a couple of horses, but but you know, like it's still I I was a bit more worried about the horses than the kids, I think. I was because you nobody wants to see a horse get hurt, right? Um, no comment. You can make good meat out of those horses. Luke's not a horse. No, not after they've been pancaked by a train, though. They should have let those horses derail the train. If a penny can do it, a horse can do it.
SPEAKER_08You would think. But they have cow catchers. So I don't know if they work on horses.
SPEAKER_04What if you need to catch a cow in a movie? We tape a bunch of horses together.
SPEAKER_08I worked with a guy who used to uh be a train engineer too.
SPEAKER_04Did you?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and he told me he saw countless animals get fucked up on the front of those things.
SPEAKER_04I think the cow catchers are mostly to keep the wheels safe, right?
SPEAKER_08Not to save, not to catch anything or save anything. But like deer and moose and shit, you just see just get fucking exploded on there irregularly. I got it so. He didn't like it because he was a you know a big animal loving type guy. But why why'd you quit training?
SPEAKER_04Didn't like I killed too many moose. Just all the elk and moose just get suiciding by train, just running right in there.
SPEAKER_08They're trying their best to stop them. It's not working. Yeah, I mean they got the horn and everything, but yeah, a fucking moose can't stop a train, but my pennies can. I'll never live down killing all those hundreds of thousands of people.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they caught you. That was in the first train you put the pennies down. You didn't tell us about all the trains you derailed leading up to that. But pennies are made of metal, and moose are made of flesh and blood and bone, and a back that's strong. Moose is made flesh and bone.
SPEAKER_08Mine that's weak, back that's strong.
SPEAKER_04You're as stupid as a moose.
SPEAKER_03But you got a strong back though.
SPEAKER_08The standard river tail. So they smash this horse trailer onto the tracks. The train is fucking coming. They gotta open up the trailer and try and get the horses out. These cowboys are trying to get them out. They get them out just in time. The trailer gets obliterated. It's pretty intense. Yeah. The tension works. Of course, the the press is right there to see all of this and put it on TV. Yeah. Now the story's huge.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, enter a whole new character in the movie, which is just the media. They are just an ever-present force from here on out. You got the helicopters flying and inspecting every like getting their shots. So half the movie is told through news footage from here on out, suffice to say, it's uh plays an important uh role throughout the rest of this.
SPEAKER_08I dare say the media plays an important role in our lives. My goodness. I think this movie's saying something.
SPEAKER_04Support independent journalists like high and low. We break, we break the important stories.
SPEAKER_08So, dispatchers, they tell Frank to take a rip exit and to hurry because the 777 is not a coaster. I repeat, it is not a coaster.
SPEAKER_04Oh, they love saying it's a coaster and then it's not a coaster, and everybody's shocked that it's not a coaster. It's not a coaster, it's not a coaster, it's not the coaster, it's not the coaster.
SPEAKER_08It's not the the president having a meeting. The president has a meeting with the shareholders and stuff, and he's like, Well, if it derails, it'll take out an entire city. Well, how's that gonna affect the stock price? They call like the CEO on the golf course.
SPEAKER_04It's not gonna be good for the stock, I don't think.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they're like, Well, it'll take out the whole city. What do we stand a loose? This much. And then what if we let it crash? And it's like, well, what's the stock devaluation? Uh 30 to 40 percent, sir. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I don't may as well just keep it going. I'm I'm not happy about this, but you may as well just keep it going.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So they opt for Galvin's solution of boarding someone boarding the train to stop it, which at this point is probably the best thing to try.
SPEAKER_04Pretty sweet solution. I like it. And and you know, ultimately, that's what happens to stop it, it just in less spectacular fashion.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Turns out the only thing to stop a runaway train is a runaway man on a mission.
SPEAKER_08Runaway Marine. They get an AWVR employee and ex-marine named Ryan Scott, which they keep telling us is his name Ryan Scott. I love the specifics.
SPEAKER_04You know, like 22 year old. Um He's a 22 year old Marine named Ryan Scott. Was he an Afghan or an Iraq veteran? I think he's an Afghan veteran. Well, this is 2010, presumably it's set. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Iraq.
SPEAKER_04Okay. The other guy, I think he was I don't know, it doesn't matter. It does, it doesn't, but it is a thing that comes up because, like, Dennis or Ned, Ned, he's also. veteran uh his intro in the net desert storm i don't even think maybe he was the the way he was talking he's just like he's telling the waitress old war stories about like how like you know that shit where it's like you know this was conflict he's like donnie he's like uh walter in the big labousky he's like going door to door that's tactical this is combat so there's like definitely like well it is a Tony Scott movie it wouldn't be a Tony Scott movie without totally jerking off the American military for such a strange reason a weird angle for a Brit to take but he fucking he knows what side his bread is buttered on man yeah like the Pentagon paid all of his bills till he couldn't take it anymore or maybe they killed him so they opt for you first folks I just created a conspiracy theory whole cloth just because I don't trust the Pentagon and I wouldn't put anything past them. I think you'll find it folds in quite nicely to the web of other conspiracy theories all of them I think so that's the missing puzzle we found the missing puzzle piece.
SPEAKER_08So Ridley Scott's a reverse vampire so on top of Mr. Ryan Scott they're sending an old timer engineer.
SPEAKER_04I think it was that guy who said I'm not running a fucking daycare center anymore to be sprang's buddy he's also a veteran a 26 year veteran of the train industry. Yeah cool I like that they're just giving so the news is involved and they have like bios on all these people and they are as the news story is developing they're showing just like if a runaway train happened are they showing the guy who did it are they showing his picture on the news like an hour within an hour of it happening at well they didn't in real life. I didn't think so but like in real life they didn't ever name the guy who fucked up I think that's fair. I don't think like maybe you can find out later but I don't need to know it like as it's happening and like they're getting really in there and I think this is kind of something I don't think uh Tony Scott likes the nosy media sticking its fucking nose into all this shit because they're really kind of portrayed as these nosy people getting in there just really divulging all the things and kind of fucking up the whole operation. But uh we're getting all this information about who this uh Afghan Iraq this like young veteran is who this train guy is and it's all just spelling out that these guys are actually dead meat because they're being introduced to the movie to do this incredibly dangerous procedure and like sure you saw that guy before but you've never really heard his name before and like all the shit's happening and I'm loving it.
SPEAKER_08What you talking about Judd Stewart? Ryan Scott these are everyone's favorite characters from this movie and they're surely the heroes of the film.
SPEAKER_04They're certainly not gonna get pancaked it's definitely not going to be two time Academy award winner Denzel Washington helping save the day here it's gonna be Judd Stewart.
SPEAKER_08So he's in a Judd Stewart's in a locomotive uh ahead of the train to try and slow it down. Basically their idea is to get him ahead slow it down hit the brakes so that that marine guy can land uh from a helicopter rope propel down onto it yeah whenever they're slow enough that he can stop the train.
SPEAKER_04Yeah and this movie does a really good job of if the numbers are real or not I don't know but the movie gives you numbers of what speed the train needs to get to for something to work.
SPEAKER_08And seems plausible.
SPEAKER_04Sure whatever like it could be fucking whatever number but they just they tell me like 40 miles an hour and they keep cutting to the speed gauge and showing that it's like 60 50 whatever like that works for me. It it shows that you know me a simpleton can figure out like it's still going too fast. Now it's going just the right speed but now it's going too fast again.
SPEAKER_08But they still had that guy dangling out of a helicopter at 70 miles an hour. That's nuts close to the ground.
SPEAKER_04Yeah so like in this shot here again so like the stunts in this movie are fucking unbelievable. So and just the way that they actually got all the shit so there's like in one shot you have the one locomotive that's trying to slow down the speeding freight train and with a guy dangling from a helicopter and then you got the fucking news helicopter in the background capturing it. You got like so many super big expensive moving things all like working in tandem all in the same shot here. It's kind of unbelievable not many directors have like the fucking cache the fucking to to be able to pull that off and like have that done in their movie and but people like Tony Scott you made Top Gun you fucking made other train movies you made you've made all these movies like this the if the guy can like do this we'll let you do this shit like because you can pull it off.
SPEAKER_08Yeah um yeah I don't like it it stylistically but there is stuff in here that I can't deny I'm impressed by uh 100% so Judd slows it down to about 40 miles per hour the marine lands immediately the the two trains have a little bit of a bump together he goes flying into the windshield hilariously instantly yeah like within two seconds of him landing he gets pancaked and you don't know if he's dead or alive and it's like I don't know that looks pretty bad. Like he's he's like ragdoll then he's just like yeah he's still limp hanging from the rope still he didn't even disconnect by God he's gone right through the windscreen my god 777's claimed another victim so now Judd he can't slow the train anymore the brake the brakes are burning out he tries to exit to the sidetrack but uh because he's taking that turn and with that train behind him hitting him too fast he goes too fast around that turn kaboom big kaboom yeah he derails goes off to the side and blows the fuck up yeah and I like it it's a good explosion bye bye dead meat uh Jud No Jud Yeah and but the explosion's close enough for Denzel and Chris Pine to actually see it. Yeah uh so we know they're coming up quick on this fucking train and they're on a head on collision course. Yeah so now they have to move over to a site and to a side right because they've got to pull over there but rip chat they tell Frank that his buddy got pancaked in the lash up um keep using the verb pancake I mean that's what happened he got pancaked he got bar he got a little more barbecued than pancake the the kid that that uh helicopter guy got pancaked you're looking good extra crispy Judd got barbecued so they're like yeah you're about to play chicken with the train get off the rip t rip track so a rip track is like a repair track it's just a short section of track that uh trains can use to stop for repairs obviously yeah just get out of the way so I can get off the main line yeah so movie says main line a lot huh yeah got me thinking maybe I should be watching train spotting instead talk about main lines uh that's a much better train movie than either of these yeah it's not really even a train movie but yeah it's right there in the title what are you talking it's all about trains uh they're a thematic uh underpinning so they're like not sure they'll make it onto the rip track in time because of how fast it's coming Frank calls Nicole tells her he loves her and they're like why what's going on and now they're just starting to hear about what's going on in the news yeah and now it's on every station and and being plastered every which way they they just miss 777 and a head on collision it takes off their caboose yeah gets a little smack on the old caboose day off you'd have enough room if you didn't fuck up and pick up those extra five cars maybe yeah we almost killed us with an extra five cars just like I said to sit in training training much listen to me I'm a veteran I've been on this job I've been on this job how long since you've been pee peeing and your diapers be a pee pee since you've been doing a little filling your little diapers diap diapers with pee pee just show me a little diapers huh you got skid marks on them things I thought you had skid marks me I don't get skid marks no more no no I've been on this job too long to get skid marks listen listen to me listen to me no no no no listen to me I'm gonna keep it a buck alright my my daughters work at Hooters all right I know you're blushing but they they work at hooters it's an honest job it is an honest job fucking union job pay for your daughter's tuition don't have to work at Hooters it's clear he has a drinking problem.
SPEAKER_04Is it clear it's not clear to me I'm just filling in the blanks something happening it's just a bit of a who knows you know Will gets word that they're evacuating Arklo.
SPEAKER_08So right away they put two and two together and they figure they're planning to derail the train over by Arklo.
SPEAKER_04So Frank stops the train and disconnects the cargo and he's like well these dope those derailers aren't gonna work they're using mobile derailer kits not gonna it's not gonna do anything they're gonna vaporize anything and come in contact with that's 100 million tons of steel like going 100 miles an hour that's gonna big time like boomers know best energy here for like this guy's he's been on the job he knows better than anybody else that this shit ain't gonna work and he's right about everything every step of the way you should really listen to the fucking listen to your old operators listen to your old uh people who've been on the job right yeah so Will's like but that means it'll go to Stanton where there's like a 90 degree turn right above my girlfriend's or my wife's house I begged her not to buy that house right underneath the train track I didn't even know trains could just turn 90 degrees but they can if they're going zero miles an hour which yeah how fast is that train going not zero miles an hour last I checked he reluctantly gets back on the engine with Frank when he realizes well our families are in danger here if we don't try our best to stop this fucking thing. Big time hero moment man this is this is where the heroes are made like the decision that sends them to be finally get them involved in this shit because I don't know like the something wasn't jiving move to me with the structure of this movie and I guess maybe it's because I watched Runaway Train first where they are just fully engaged in this runaway thing. Well yes it's I'm a better movie spoiler alert but like they're fully involved in the runaway train the entire time in this one we're kind of watching a a couple separate movies finally the worlds have come together and for me it could have happened a bit sooner. I I don't know but also the last chunk of this movie is just them trying to catch up to a train and it does kind of drag on a little bit doesn't it I think it does.
SPEAKER_08Yeah it's on rails you kind of know what's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_08The second Frank says what we're gonna do to stop this train you kind of understand that that's gonna work.
SPEAKER_04He eyeballs it from like kind of like a weird angle and he kind of has his eyes all squinted but he's able to tell exactly how that other train is set up and that's that's the power of experience he knows exactly how to fix the problem now. They're gonna link this train up to the other one baby.
SPEAKER_08They're already going full speed full tilt in reverse when they tell Connie what their plan is uh so Galvin he's against Frank's pursuit he's like ah fire him we we gotta stop him from trying to be a hero matter of fact you're fired too if you don't stop him I'm gonna fire you I'm gonna fire you I'm gonna fire everybody I fire so you gotta fire you gotta fire my ass yeah Frank at this point he's just kind of laughs it off he's like I've already been given early notice I got 90 day leave and I got 72 already out of that you already fired me Mr.
SPEAKER_04Government what do you mean I already fired you oh you already fired me forced her to retirement half benefits so you're gonna risk your life for us with three weeks left not for you not doing it for you so good such good Denzel honestly he's like even if he's phoning it like him phoning it in on his laziest day is fucking so good.
SPEAKER_08I know even at his like I can't even call this his worst it's not his worst but yeah this is just bare minimum Denzel it's still like better than anybody he's got like enough charisma on his little toe to fucking carry a not for you not doing it for you so good.
SPEAKER_04It was so this movie was in like production hell for a while and finally got greenlit and Denzel was offered uh he was supposed to get 20 million dollars for this movie which is fucking insane to just say how much actors get paid out loud is fucking insane.
SPEAKER_08He was offered 20 million dollars and they're like the one he sells tickets just on his name.
SPEAKER_04Yeah but that was too it was too much it was too much they said uh Fox or whoever did the movie they're like yeah I think it was Fox they're like we're gonna have to knock a few million dollars off off that and he's like no you're not I'm gonna so he walked and then like actually yeah we're gonna pay you Mr.
SPEAKER_08I'm sure he has an agent who does that for him but I love the idea that no oh you know not not for you I'm not I'm not gonna knock two million dollars off of you imagine trying to negotiate with Denzel Washington I don't care who you are please Mr.
SPEAKER_01Washington will you just be in our movie for 18 million dollars no I don't think so please no not for you not doing it for you 18 and a half 50 million dollars all right all right peace out man thank you Mr.
SPEAKER_04Washington you would just I don't care who you are you're gonna look stupid yes but he'll make you look stupid in a really nice and like suave way I know that like you can't even be mad about like fuck what was I thinking he that's the thing about him he's like paternal and sexy he can like do all of those things all at the same time he's kind of gone into like his weird philosopher sage period of his life where he's just starting to just like drop knowledge and like wisdom all over Hollywood and all his interviews and yeah it's it's funny I'm totally there for it uh I think we did an extended bit on that didn't we oh I'm sure I'm sure yeah yeah but yeah I love it and he's uh doing it at what I feel is an appropriate time where it's like McConaughey's coming up on an a little too early and hot but Denzel's like makes perfect sense for uh McConaughey.
SPEAKER_07What was that recent story about how he lived in Peru as Mateo Fame got fame got too good big for me so I had to go down to Peru had to go down to Peru reconnect down and down down there I'm not Matthew McConaughey I'm I'm Mateo and after after six weeks living in Mateo I said goodbye to everybody and they said tears in their eyes goodbye Mateo and I said oh goodbye I got tears in my eyes they got tears in their eyes big strong Peruvians come up with tears in their eyes and say I love you Mateo and I said I love you too still got it I love how he's the dumbest motherfucker to ever live and also is just completely successful at everything he tries.
SPEAKER_05Yeah the most charmed life ever so then I had a wet dream and I had to go down to Peru I was sailing down a river I was it was absolutely it was absolutely the Amazon River but all the people surrounding me on the river they were Peruvians so I had to go down to Peru.
SPEAKER_04God I love so much still got it bumper sticker green lights hawk if you're horny for anybody who hasn't read Matthew McConaughey's book Greenlights I recommend listening to it on audio tape. I've recently realized that I'm a freak who just recommends it to everybody that I meet if they'll if they express any interest whatsoever in reading as an idea anybody Greenlights somebody talks to you say it's a green light to recommend that. Anyway so he will intercut his book periodically he's been a lifelong collector of bumper stickers so if you're listening to the audiobook the lowest form of art there could possibly be like it's below political cartoons it's it's insane bumper sticker.
SPEAKER_08Bumper sticker the guy is a parody of an American I love him ass gas or grass nobody rides for free have you said about the wisdom in that he's just like God I love him more and more every day fucking idiot I fucking love him so much too anyways listen to the book it's great there's lots of good bumper stickers in there bumper stickers lots of good poetry yeah good poetry whatever the fuck are we let's let's finish this movie so Colson he backs Frank up as Connie's listening in grinning now Frank asks Connie if she can keep keep them gotta keep us posted on 777's trip speed and location alright and she's totally on board she's helping them out we finally get Will's backstory about how he thought his wife was cheating on him but it long story short she was just texting her sister. Basically he pulled a gun on her cop friend from since what they were kids and immediately got served with a restraining order because he's a fucking psycho. Yeah like you didn't even check who she was texting she's texting her sister. Yeah and you're like it's that cop give me the phone give me the phone yeah I'm gonna go kill somebody fucking psycho you absolutely don't ever deserve to see your kids it's the least sympathetic back what a bizarre choice what a fucking bizarre choice to have that be in the movie.
SPEAKER_04I don't know if like is this anything like what the guy who saved like it can't be nothing redeemable about that whole thing. He's just like a fuck up and like I guess everybody doesn't need to be redeemable but like what a funny idea to be like he's a just a total fucking lunatic who has a gun.
SPEAKER_08That's a weird choice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So just north of Arklo uh a a bunch of cops are camping out at a crossing to try and shoot at the fuel stop safety switch. They're so they've they're saying they're firing buckshot but they've got AR rounds and everything and they're firing point blankets at this train as it's whizzing by right next to the fuel tank and the fuel cap, which is insane. And this is something that actually happened in the real event um totally hopeless.
SPEAKER_04So the people involved in the real event must have read the most informative IMDB trivia or was it a goof? I think it was a goof comment uh that I saw when researching runaway train um actually there was an alternative method that somebody could have used to stop the train uh if they had thought of it uh maybe if they had a helicopter they could have fired an ins a non-incendiary round of course into the fuel tank of the train thus depleting its fuel and would have just coasted to a stop eventually uh I think there's a plot hole in this movie.
SPEAKER_08I don't know why they didn't try that. I'm sure train genius 101 or whatever IMDB I'm sure if you're a registered IMDB user you're the smartest person in any room.
SPEAKER_04I think so but yeah anyways I just love that somebody took the time to write that out what a goof I know you hate that website but I go there like this is this makes me happy to think that you can't look at that website.
SPEAKER_08It's all I I love some of the content on it well any user submitted content is still gold.
SPEAKER_04You got a good two inch band that's not occupied by ads that you can still kind of scroll through everything on there like God what a shithole the internet is now but like it's an assault on my senses. It used to be a great website god that website's like a fucking Tony Scott movie.
SPEAKER_08Exactly I'm just very sensitive to these things nowadays I'm finding more and more as I get older just turn that fucking shit down. Why are you hurting me with your sensory shit? Now we get to the derailers and we get this guy smugly explaining to the news crew about how these derailers are gonna work and pull the train off the tracks trink pulls up just pops those fucking giant pieces of steel like they're balloons. Yeah it's awesome it is awesome uh anytime this train blows through something which happens a few times I fucking confused me though is and this happens throughout the movie from here on is the cop cars and everybody standing right next to the tracks where it's supposed to be derailing like that's a really good clear out yeah everybody gather around gather around everybody come like the cops are literally lined up with their cars standing there next to it inches away from the fucking tracks right where it's supposed to derail I'm getting the fuck out of there like I hope everybody brought your pennies hey guys everybody this is gonna be Hiroshima here in about 10 seconds yeah only only the the best of the best and uh Phil and Jeff I never liked you you're you're on this one did anybody post that as a plot hole on IMDB because I couldn't figure it out at all can you speak a little slower I'm doing it right now wait you were that guy I'm trained guy so the derailler totally doesn't work the train blows through there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah now we get Frank's backstory his That was 10 million pounds of train Mr.
SPEAKER_08Galvin you stupid bastard so Frank's backstory his wife died of cancer four years ago every night I come home tell her about my day who annoyed me well you know you know all that and well who annoyed you today would I make the grid he's like yeah yeah yeah you probably would so they're bonding or whatever yeah they got five minutes left to live so they may as well have some jokes yeah he kind of snapped into it he's like hey just Call your wife. You quit too easy. Call your wife. Did you try calling her all this time? All this time you've been away from your wife. I had actually called her.
SPEAKER_04You ever tried picking up the phone?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. He's like, duh, I didn't fucking think of that, actually. I never said I'm sorry, or called her, or talked to her.
SPEAKER_04No, I just went and threatened her with the gun, too.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So Darcy, that's Will's wife's name, Estranged Wife. She's seeing the news now.
SPEAKER_04She's gonna get a line in the movie soon. Most of her lines in the movie are, oh no, baby. Oh, you're gonna make it, baby. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08We need a upset blonde woman.
SPEAKER_04Uh Michelle Williams cost too much, so we'll get whoever this actress is.
SPEAKER_08I mean, that's top-tier upset blonde woman is Michelle Williams. We'll get Jesse's Shram. So Werner tells him that according to his calculations, uh, he figures it'll be best to alternate between full throttle and braking for maximum tractor pull.
SPEAKER_04I just love this guy for that. Actually, according to my research, I've been frantically scribbling on the back of this manila envelope this whole movie, and this is pretty franking it. This guy should fucking get on IMDB. I'm sure he would have a whole fucking slew of interesting things to say. Maybe he was train guy.
SPEAKER_08So Will says he's gonna go outside on the speeding train to complete the coupling.
SPEAKER_04Gotta complete that coupling. You gotta flip a switch or something. It makes sense. You can't just smash it. You can't just smash into it and hope that something's gonna happen, buddy.
SPEAKER_08So the final act. They collide with the grain car, and there's wheat or some shit flying fucking everywhere.
SPEAKER_04I missed that it was grain, but it was pretty cinematic to have all this shit flying up and going everywhere. That makes total sense that that's what there was.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Now the pin doesn't fall, uh, and it's so so it's not locking onto the fucking car. So Chris Pine's out there and he's he has to boot it. He's booting the shit out of it. He crushes his foot, he almost falls off the train while Darcy's watching. All this and all of it is on these helicopters that are right next to it, getting perfect 1080p amazing footage to go live on the news.
SPEAKER_04Super obnoxious news helicopters like two feet away from the whole thing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And so everybody's watching all the other characters in the movie. And again, as everything's now they have like Frank's bio on there, and they have Will's bio, and they know everything about who these guys are immediately.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Now 1206 is attached, but Will's foot is fucked up. He limps back into the cab. Uh they tape his boot up. You don't want to take that son of a bitch off. Frank alternates now between the dynamic brakes and the full throttle.
SPEAKER_04It's working a little.
SPEAKER_08They're three miles out from the turn, still ripping at 50 miles per hour. They gotta get well below 20.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, make that. Like 15, 20 miles. And that's what I'm saying. That this movie's is really good at doing like they're just giving us these numbers, and it's all making sense to me to be like, okay, I get it. Like, things are still bad. Like, it's super effective in that way.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, no, it's clear what's happening. And he's got Connie, we're gonna be coming in real hot. We're gonna be coming real hot.
SPEAKER_04So, but this is around the time when we find out that the curve, we've kind of like seen the curve, like know a bit about the curve, but like it's above an oil refinery. Yeah, and I fucking love that. One thing that the news has not only are they like top-notch, like Johnny on the spa with the bios, they also have all these awesome little 3D info, like 3D graphics showing what they need to do, and like it's so good.
SPEAKER_08It's better than presidential electron coverage.
SPEAKER_04Totally. It's like, oh, by the way, they're so prepared. These tanks filled with you know, jet fuel and gas, like if train hits them, big explosion, it's bad. Like kill radius of like this many miles, like it's hilarious.
SPEAKER_08And everything in this radius will be destroyed, Moe's tavern. Oh god, no.
SPEAKER_04Oh god, no. We need Anderson Cooper out here explaining what's going on. Actually, it looks like it looks like Stanton, Pennsylvania is going red because it's being consumed by a massive fireball.
SPEAKER_08Nice. It is a swing state, isn't it? Yeah. Stay tuned for uh 2020.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, stay tuned. Eight staying to eight?
SPEAKER_08Is that how long we gotta wait?
SPEAKER_04Good god. It's it's time's a funny thing. In some ways it's just flying by, in other ways, it just can't go fast enough. You know?
SPEAKER_08Oh god.
SPEAKER_04Uh just let it happen soon. Whatever it is, just let a fucking massive freight train filled with molten phenol just coming.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Eradicate all of us, huh, folks?
SPEAKER_08I didn't mean all of us, but yeah, I'll take that. Um Will suggests he tries the manual braking on the freight cars. Frank volunteers to go, uh, because he's his foot's not fucked up. Yeah. Will takes the helm. Frank's daughters see him, Ethan hunting atop all the fucking train cars, which is crazy. That's speed.
SPEAKER_04And if this is Denzel Washington doing this stunt himself, is it? It is, yeah.
SPEAKER_08He's gonna say there's no fucking way it's Denzel Washington.
SPEAKER_04It's him running across, he's got a fear of heights, apparently, and he's like, has to run across this.
SPEAKER_08It's an elevated track.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and if the train is actually going like 50 miles an hour when they're shooting, and like no way. For real, for real. Yeah, he did his own shit for that. He had seven stunt men, apparently, but all it for it was actually him running across the top of the train here. And he was like 50 at the time.
SPEAKER_08I don't know, like cruise for sure.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't know how old Denzel is. But like this is 2000.
SPEAKER_08He's gotta be older than 50 here. Yeah, I think he looks well, you know. Fucking in a couple of days, I'll probably be 50. Who's counting?
SPEAKER_04Uh, yeah, I know that he's okay, 50. He's 71 now, so he's 55, I guess. Yeah, so yeah, looking good, man.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Oh, he looks good, but you can tell he's into his 50s. Um, just because we've been with him our whole lives. Uh, so we see him jumping over the cars. There's the grain car, which is labeled trans grain. I think I found the problem there. It's trans. 1206.
SPEAKER_04I've hey hey, train car, which bathroom do you use?
SPEAKER_08It's a woke DEI train. 1206. I'm gonna go kill myself. I'm gonna go jump off a bridge. 1206. I don't even have Mitch to blame these bad jokes on anymore. Normally I'd just leave it to Mitch and I'd say, God damn it. Turns out he was never the problem.
SPEAKER_04Mitch was in our hearts all this time. Cut to like the series of flashbacks of like just the two of us doing the podcast all by ourselves this entire time. Oh, he was a big energy microphone. Yeah. He was never there. Me wearing a mega hat. Oh no. You you never knowing the politically correct term for anything.
SPEAKER_08Never, never knew it. They're having lesbian sex or whatever it might say. They're lesbian kissing.
SPEAKER_03There's always lesbian this and lesbian that.
SPEAKER_04It's just a lesbian train. It's a lesbian runaway train. You mean that lesbian train's under power? It's underpowered. So Denzel, he's running across the tops of these trains here.
SPEAKER_081206's brakes, they blow up. They just straight pop. Cool. Super cool to see. Engines overheated. They get red hot and just blow. Yeah. The thing about trains is like a lot of uh modern vehicles, is they have something called regenerative brakes, right? So the more pressure you put on them, the further they can kind of grab in and they keep cooling and getting stronger and stronger as you keep using them. But even with regenerative brakes, there comes a point where they can just fucking fail and explode. But that's that's a level that's so extreme.
SPEAKER_04In every brake's life, there comes a point where you just might explode.
SPEAKER_08So all the all the press and stuff are gathered around the corner like it isn't gonna be Hiroshima. They're literally all there. They're standing there, like the the guy is on TV and he's like right on the corner where the train is gonna destroy.
SPEAKER_04Hello, coming at you live with a crowd of fucking idiots, yourself included, uh yours truly included. We are expecting a nuclear bomb to come hurtling around this corner at any minute.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But first, here's here's Tom with the local high school sports update. What do we have going on there, Tom?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, exactly. Um, so Will hits the independent, which I don't entirely understand what that means. The train skids around the corner. It's all of its right wheels are elevated off the fucking track.
SPEAKER_03Pretty cool.
SPEAKER_08It's awesome. Uh Frank is continuing to run across the top of the train as it's picking up speed again. They make it around the corner just by the skin of their teeth. They like lose a few loads, they drop some.
SPEAKER_04A bunch of like steel pipes fall out, and it's yeah, pretty cool. And that's a problem because those pipes fall out, and that means that Frank has nowhere left to go, right? Like that's that's where he runs into a snag because he can't go get across that part of the train.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and that's where he realizes he can't make any more jumps.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER_08And then I can't make any more jumps. Right? Can't can't make the jump. Got you on radio, I can't make it. And then out of nowhere appears the real heroes.
SPEAKER_03The removed by Ned. Ned.
SPEAKER_08Like Andalf at the end of two towels.
SPEAKER_04Now, why don't you all look to the east on the uh demorning of the third round?
SPEAKER_03How you'll see me coming to my duly.
SPEAKER_04Earlier in the movie, there's a funny bit where like Ned is talking to the Stadies who fucking I hate the chin straps on these hats. Well, the chin straps on all the these cops' hats was driving me insane. It's the kind that like goes in between your chin and your lip. It's like the British puffy hat chin strap. Oh no. Anyways, when I was able to unclench my teeth enough to like and you know uncross my eyes enough to focus on the movie, uh, I noticed that there was a scene happening here where Ned is talking to them and he convinces this every cop in the county pretty much to like clear the road for him. So net when Ned comes in, he's got like like yeah, and two towers. He's got like 50 cop cars coming behind him, he's got the whole Rohiram coming up behind him.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's why I'm like, there's not a fucking chance that the police would let a civilian speed through the middle of a heavily populated city, like going 150 kilometers.
SPEAKER_04Have you met Ned? What if I said that Ned was the guy who was doing this?
SPEAKER_08I don't know. I'm slightly convinced, but I mean the Mounties wouldn't let this happen. Out here in Canada, we do things a little different. Yeah. We don't we don't appreciate no cowboys hot dogging around in their dually trucks.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, you know what? It's a good thing for the town of Stanton that uh where freedom reigns. Yeah, freedom reigns supreme, and Ned comes in and fucking saves the day like a boss.
SPEAKER_08Pennsylvania, the birthplace of freedom.
SPEAKER_04He's got his fucking like caulk, his he his hog is just like push down the accelerator. It's so big and swinging. This net is so fucking badass.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, he doesn't even need his feet.
SPEAKER_04He saves his feet for other things.
SPEAKER_08So he gets Will to jump into the box of his truck.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Uh then Will makes a leap onto the locomotive. All very intense. A triumphant string crescendo. Frank pumps his fist, he does arms to top the train, standing on top. I'll let John Void at the end of the runaway train.
SPEAKER_04He wishes. But they did it. They stopped the train, and it feels good.
SPEAKER_08This is where I would end the movie. That's what Globe and Globus would do.
SPEAKER_04I would end the movie here, and I would also choose a different song to go out with. Tony Scott had different things in mind.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. It's not a it's not an overly long movie, by the way. It's like an hour and a half.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's super lean. Uh it feels a little long for as short as it is, but it is like you get you get in, you get a story, and it gets into it.
SPEAKER_08So Will, whatever. He gets they stop the fucking train. Will gets a text from Darcy. Great, happy ending. Ned's getting interviewed by the press. He's like, nah, I wasn't worried. It's all about precision. Yeah, weah.
SPEAKER_04This is why I think Ned's gonna be like the next one. He's gonna be a senator or something like that.
SPEAKER_08Could have played this part.
SPEAKER_04He could have, but this guy, like I mean, this guy's great too. Yeah. But everybody loves Ned. Every single person in the like the press got the especially. This guy is the fucking real deal, man.
SPEAKER_08And Connie kind of has a weird moment here when she comes. Yes. She's like, Can you help me? And like to Will and Frank, she's like, I can't decide which one of you I want to kiss first. Which is like a little bit weird and inappropriate. And like Frank smartly is like, uh, you can kiss me first. Excuse me, my boss. So smart, so wise. I'll jump on this fucking grenade and you can kiss me. I mean, she can come and kiss me anytime she wants, but just the whole thing is weird. It was just awkward.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's a weird thing. Apparently, Rosario Dawson was just so happy, pleased as punch to be kissing Denzel Washington, as would we all.
SPEAKER_08Did she I don't think she even kissed him?
SPEAKER_04She gave him like a kiss on the cheek, or she gave her a kiss.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it wasn't like sexual, but like it was just a weird It was a weird thing.
SPEAKER_03This is that we do things across the pond, eh? After you go, after you go save the day from a runaway freight train, your boss comes and gives you a big snog. Big snog right on sexy boss. Yeah, his big sexy boss just comes right in and gives you a snog, doesn't she? Isn't it? Isn't it?
SPEAKER_08His daughters are there and Will's family's there, you could pretty well imagine. And then as the credits roll, we get a little postscript thing telling what happened to everybody, everybody got it promoted except for uh Galvin. Connie got his job and Dewey as the last one. He now works in fast food. Oh what a fucking loser.
SPEAKER_04What a can you imagine flipping burgers? Can you imagine somebody doing a job that everybody fucking uses every single day? Uh I love that this movie does that though. I I kind of do, it kind of ruins it. Like, you know, where the other one has like a fucking pitch perfect ending. This one is a bit of a swing and a miss. But I am a sucker for those movies, like the Animal House ending. Give that to me. Any time I will take it anytime. I was gonna say give that to me in Schindler's List, but they kind of did, didn't they? But in a much more somber way. That's my go-to for a heavy movie.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they do do that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so there, there you go. If they can works in Schindler's List, it can work anywhere. Yeah, I should have got the Schindler's List ending. The song choice. I don't know what it is, but it's like totally off base for what this movie and what this ending is. It's this weird, like electro pop fucking piece of shit or something like that. I I I don't know. It's it's bizarre. And then they cut to the It was ass. It was ass. And then they cut to like the the actual dramatic music, the score that's been playing the whole time afterwards. But uh yeah, that's 2010's ununstoppable.
SPEAKER_08D to take that again.
SPEAKER_04Unstop uh bull perfect, and that'll about wrap up our little train conversation. Uh we've been training to have this conversation for a while, and I think that we were able to keep it on the rails pretty well. But as this customary around here, we're just gonna go back and forth and talk about which one did it better. Which which train movie did you like better? Uh, Luke.
SPEAKER_08Um, it's an easy one for me. Runaway train. Uh unstoppable. It's got a tight little script. I think it's a pretty solid little flick. Like I said already a few times, I can't stand Tony Scott's frenetic direction. It really uh disorients, angers, and just kind of activates my fight or flight response. I I have a visceral physical reaction to his movies, and it's a negative one. Uh, but God bless him wherever he is. Um Runaway Train, excellent film. I'm glad I watched it, and I hope uh some of you do too.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah. I'll echo those sentiments. For me, Runaway Train is apparently my favorite movie of all time. I don't know, I fucking loved it so much. And I don't even know. I mean, I can I guess I talked for like two hours about why I liked it so much, but I was surprised. It has this weird mix. There's so many things and like it shouldn't have worked, but there's just so much skill and talent put behind it and thought put into the story. Like it all just sang. It was super cool. Uh unstoppable. I actually liked quite a bit too. Um, I am not a Tony Scott super fan, but I like I like his stuff. He does good action. He makes it all the intense parts, all the parts where you're supposed to be gripping, like your the armrests, your chairs, those work for me. Uh, the frenetic style, I get where you're coming from. I could overlook it a bit, but it is it is a little annoying, a little distracting. And I thought this movie looked great on like super green, like all the rich greens were able to kind of subdue me into a point where I could enjoy it. It kind of easy. It ain't easy. Being green. That's very true. Did you come up with that? Yeah. Okay, you're a genius. You're a freaking genius. Uh, so yeah, I'm gonna go runaway train. No problem here. So I guess that's the best train movie, the best runaway train movie that we've come across. What do we do?
SPEAKER_08Do you know any other runaway train movies?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there's the one where Julia Roberts just doesn't want to get married. She just kind of keeps chickening out at the altar.
SPEAKER_08Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and Richard Gere's like, uh-uh, you're gonna marry me.
SPEAKER_08That one's called Runaway Train.
SPEAKER_04That's what we're called Runaway Brideswear Trains. So it's runaway bridal train.
SPEAKER_08Um, I saw one where you run a train on a bride. Oh, yeah. Uh it wasn't uh Julia Roberts, it was Eric Roberts in it? Yeah, yeah. He's always working all the time. Yeah, yeah, he never stops working, he's in everything.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I guess I'll go next. Uh all right. I've been wanting to do this for a while. Uh since we can't do taking Pelham 1, 2, 3 for a little while, I wanted to do another Walter Mathown movie. We're doing Elaine Way, we're doing the Lane May movies.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we're gonna do uh her directorial debut, New A New Leaf. Uh, and we're gonna compare that to the critically and commercially panned Ishtar.
SPEAKER_06Oh, Ishtar.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we're gonna take a little deep dive on a director for our next pairing here.
SPEAKER_08So Oh, that's a little off-the-beaten path for us. Yeah, it's great.
SPEAKER_04I think it'll be good. So until next time, when we go to Elaine Maysville, thank you for listening to the High and Low Movie show. If this is something you enjoy, please write, review, subscribe, and most importantly, tell a friend. Tell your caboose partner, your cabin partner. If you're the engineer, tell your conductor. You a little loose in the caboose? How funky is your chicken?
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Are you a little uh queer with your engineer?
SPEAKER_04Oh, hell yeah. Do you know a couple like holsters who are just total fuck-ups and like you know they're not paying attention to anything on their job hostlers? Do you know some hostlers who just aren't paying attention? Well, why don't you give them this podcast and they can at least have a good time while they're not paying attention?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Uh, do you have any uh pussy posse alumnus who uh need to get to their train on time? Give them a lift, help them out.
SPEAKER_04Do you know anybody who's like just really hates their sister-in-law so much and they bought a handgun? Give them a podcast, give them to change their mind, re-evaluate a couple decisions.
SPEAKER_08Uh, do you know Jeff Wincott? Uh, we'd like to fight his ass. He's Canadian. We're coming for him. This is a challenge on the air.
SPEAKER_04Do you know a donut shop that is just completely cleared out of stock because, like, the most gorgeous rail yard manager you've ever seen in your life just came and bought everything? Just all of it. The plane, the honeykrullers, the uh jelly fill, the Boston creams, the Eclair, all of it.
SPEAKER_08Do you know another donut shop that's completely out of stock because every cop in Pennsylvania just decided to camp out next to the rail where it's gonna derail and they're all gonna die? Because apparently they want to die and want to have a last donut.
SPEAKER_04Do you know some retirement home workers who are just desperately trying to put their overexcited geriatrics to bed after a bit too much fun at on their train field trip? Give them a podcast, that'll ought to help settle them down a little bit. Well, until next time, thank you for listening to the High and Low Movie Show. And uh, as always, I'm Vaughn. I'm Luke. Smail you later. See ya, Hooters.
SPEAKER_00If you miss this one, you must be a big baby, big bum, bum, baby, and then you're gonna be able to do it.
